Rompot as it was

Liz’s last post reminded me of my time working on a project in Rompot. I photographed Rompot during the summer of 2004 for the Gazette’s In the Neighborhood series. It was a great neighborhood to work in, everyone was friendly and helpful. The most striking feature when driving through Rompot was the soda vending machine in the front yard of one house. A working vending machine. -Cliff

Tyler White, age 10 of Cedar Rapids, stops on a nearly daily basis for a soft drink from the vending machine in the front yard of Jolene Rohret on Blakely Blvd in Rompot on Sunday June 17, 2004. Rohret put the vending machine in her yard 3 or 4 years ago so the kids in the isolated neighborhood would be able to get a soda. It is  an over two mile bike ride on narrow, hilly tree and lined roads to the nearest drugstore or vending machine.
